Joe Zee is a celebrity stylist, author, journalist, producer and media personality known for his captivating and approachable demeanor and his cutting takes on fashion. Joe was most recently the Editor in Chief and Creative Officer of Yahoo Style, where he was tasked with launching and running a digital fashion magazine for the tech giant. Previous to this post, Joe was the Creative Director of ELLE magazine. At ELLE, he developed a new visual signature for the magazine, where he oversaw all the photo shoots and styled the covers, as well as penning a monthly column (“Style A to Zee”), that focused on fashion service, commentary and insider styling advice.
Joe also co-hosted the nationally syndicated one-hour daytime talk show FABLife, and released his new lifestyle & fashion memoire THAT’S WHAT FASHION IS: Lessons and Stories from My Non-Stop, Mostly Glamourous Life in Style with St. Martin’s press. Joe is also a frequent fashion & pop culture expert appearing on ABC’s Good Morning America, NBC’s TODAY show, CNN (most notably as the sole fashion expert during the Obama Inauguration), Extra! Access Hollywood, and MSNBC Live. He was also the Fashion Consultant for Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson’s characters in the film, Zoolander. Joe has also crossed over into primetime television with a regular judge spot on CW’s reality show, Stylista, and multiple guest spots on ABC’s hit show, Ugly Betty and Gossip Girl as well as MTV’s The City, where he was a regular character.
Joe executive produced the Sundance Channel non-fiction series, All On The Line With Joe Zee, in which he served as the host and mentor. In this original program, Joe guides struggling designers through the roadblocks in their business, changing both their product and outcome along the way. All On The Line With Joe Zee has been called “A Must See Show” by Huffington Post and EW, airing for three seasons. His second show, Revealing, an investigative show with hidden camera experiments and social studies debuted on Sundance TV to critical acclaim. Joe Zee began his career at Allure magazine, where he worked for the legendary fashion editor, Polly Mellen. From there, Joe moved to W magazine where he served as their Fashion Director, as well as helping to relaunch Details magazine. He was Editor-in-Chief of his own magazines that he conceived at Conde Nast/Fairchild, titled Vitals and Vitals for Women, a luxury service and celebrity-shopping magazine that catered to both men and women. Joe also served as Contributing Editors at both House and Garden and Vanity Fair.
Joe is the recipient of the Muriel Fox Communications Leadership Award from Legal Momentum, a division of NOW Legal Defense and Education Fund. Joe has also been honored by the Asian American Arts Alliance and named one of OUT’s 100. He’s been profiled by the New York Times’ as “Fashion’s Approachable Ambassador”. He was awarded the Creative Director of the Year Award in The Daily’s First Annual Media Awards, alongside such recipients as Ingrid Sischy and Heidi Klum.As a fashion stylist, Joe Zee has collaborated on many prominent projects including the famed March Hollywood Issue of Vanity Fair with designer Tom Ford; a Gap campaign featuring Madonna and Missy Elliot; the 35th anniversary Gap campaign starring Sarah Jessica Parker, among others. Joe has also worked with many top musicians in image consulting, styling and packaging including Jennifer Lopez for JLo, Justin Timberlake for FutureSex/LoveSounds and Mariah Carey for Butterfly among many others.
